World Bank Approves $125m for Sri Lankan Agri Development, July 04,’16

The World Bank has approved a $125 million credit from the International Development Association (IDA) for modernizing agriculture in Sri Lanka in cooperation with the Ministry of Primary Industries and the Ministry of Agriculture. Particular focus will be paid to higher value fruit and vegetable cultivation.

This project is designed to demonstrate new agricultural practices and institutional arrangements in the project areas to link smallholder farmers into modern agriculture value chains and to create attractive jobs, including new employment opportunities for women and young people.
