Japan Opens New IT Institute in Maharagama, Sri Lanka

According to the Embassy of Japan in Colombo, Metatechno has opened a new IT higher education institution under the name Lanka Nippon Biztech Institution (LNBTI) in Maharagama. This institution is established by the collaboration of Metatechno and a Sri Lankan company, hSenid International, and is unique because it not only teaches Software Engineering and computer science, but also Japanese language and Japanese business culture, opening up possibilities for students to work in companies worldwide.

Ceylon Electricity Board invites Sealed tenders for the Procurement of Plant – Design, Supply and Install for Package 2 of double circuit transmission line.

The Ceylon Electricity Board invites sealed bids for the Procurement of Plant – Design, Supply and Install for Package 2 – Lot B1 consisting of:  Mannar – Nadukuda 30km, 220kV, twin ACSR/AW Zebra, three phase double circuit transmission line with one Optical Fiber Ground Wire (OPGW) and one Aluminium Clad Steel Wire (AS).

The Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka has applied for financing from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) towards the cost of Green Power Development and Energy Efficiency Improvement Investment Program (Tranche 2). Part of this financing will be used for payments under the contract named above.

International Competitive Bidding (ICB) will be conducted in accordance with ADB’s Single Stage, Two Envelope bidding procedure and is open to all Bidders from eligible source countries of the ADB.

The last date for bid submission is Aug 03 2016.

Rs 410 Billion Reserved For Energy Projects in FY 2016-17

The Federation in Pakistan has reserved Rs. 410 billion for energy projects in the financial year 2016-17. Meanwhile, the government has reserved Rs 60 billion for three Liquefied Natural Gas-fired plants, Rs 61 billion for Neelum Jhelum hydro-power project while Rs 42 billion for Dasu power project.

Furthermore, the government has set aside Rs 16 billion for Tarbela Fourth Extension Hydro Power Project while recommendation of spending Rs 22 billion on Chashma Nuclear Project III and IV has been tabled by authorities concerned. The Rs. 31 billion have reportedly, reserved for Water and Power division, Rs 32 billion for Diamer-Bhasha Dam, Rs 22 billion for Chashma coal project and Rs 2 billion for Gomal Zam Dam.

Land Acquisition for India-Bangladesh Rail Project to Begin Soon

According to the General Manager of Indian Northeast Frontier Railway, HK Jaggi, work on land acquisition for the Agartala-Akhaura rail project will begin in the latter half of June coupled with launching of a broad gauge (BG) railway service from Agartala. On the Agartala-Akhaura (India-Bangladesh) railway project, Jaggi said the central government had already released the first instalment of Rs 1.5 billion for land acquisition. The Indian government had announced it will bear the entire cost of the 15-km railway project. Of the 15 km, 5 km fall within India and the rest in Bangladesh. The Agartala-Akhaura project is scheduled to be completed by December 2017.

Hyrax Oil Signs Agreement to Construct Lubricant Manufacturing Plant in Sri Lanka

Hyrax Oil, a Malaysian manufacturer of petroleum derivatives with a vast customer base worldwide will be investing US$ 30 million to establish four million liters per month lubricant blending plant in Muthurajawela in western Sri Lanka.  Three agreements were signed between Hyrax Oil and Sri Lanka’s petroleum authority, Ceylon Petroleum Corporation. The agreements that were signed are for a build, operate and transfer  agreement, a supply agreement and a land lease agreement. Hyrax Oil will construct the plant and subsequently manufacture the lubricant products for CPC for a term of 20 years.
The construction of the plant will start within two months, and it is expected to be completed within a year.
