India plans to set up SEZ in Rakhine State

India plans to set up a Special Economic Zone in Sittwe, Rakhine State, where it has already built a port. The proposed SEZ by India will rival the Chinese SEZ located 80 km down of strategically located Sittwe as Delhi plans to make it an economic hub. The aim of the SEZ is to help expand India’s footprints in South East Asia amid China’s plans for massive road and port connectivity projects in the region as part of its One Belt One Road initiative.

Haa-Chuzom Road Widening To Begin Soon

The groundbreaking ceremony has been conducted in June 2016 for the widening of the Chuzom-Haa road at Neymo in Naja gewog, Paro. The widening works will however begin from Neymo around 29km away from Chuzom at a point where a 13.1km bifurcation from Chukha-Damchu through Wanakha and Susuna meets. A total of 50.1km towards Haa from Neymo will be widened.  However, no finalized date was released about when the widening works would begin.

Government Approves Tk 36.84 Billion for Building Rural Bridges and Culverts

The Bangladesh government has approved a Tk 36.84 billon project titled ‘Small bridges/culvert construction for rural communications’ for rural development in Bangladesh. The project plan includes a total of 129,924 metres of bridges and culverts on dirt roads to establish uninterrupted communications in the rural areas. The total cost of these projects will be Tk 66.57 billion. The government will provide Tk 56.94 billion and the rest of the cost will come from foreign funds.
